HONG KONG 香港

I’ve lived here for over five years, and Hong Kong continues to shape the way I see the world. It’s a place where traditions disappear as quickly as new skylines rise, and where identity is constantly being redefined.

Often called The Pearl of the East—and just as often, a Concrete Jungle—Hong Kong is a city of layered contrasts. Its east-meets-west identity, shaped by British colonisation from 1841 to 1997, has produced a cultural imagination all its own. Today, 7.18 million people call this vertical city home, navigating a dense landscape of glass towers, neon lights, street markets, and ancestral memory.

I aim to create projects that help students foster curiosity about their own cultural identity, so they can find new meaning for the future. Through place-based, art-focused learning, I invite them to explore the hidden stories around them—and within them.

Below are three examples of Place-Base-Learning art-focused experiences I designed.

The Mong Kok project focuses on Human Geography.

The Tai O Fishing Village Project focuses on traditional living, and

The Sai Kung Project focuses on nature.

Anchor 1
HUMAN GEOGRAPHY OF MONG KOK

Mong Kok meaning prosperous/crowded corner' in Chinese is one the busiest districts in

the world.  This project asks students to develop their own inquiries through a different lens and capture what is life like in Mong Kok.

VILLAGE LIFE IN TAI O

Tai O is a traditional fishing village built on stilts. I created this place base learning project for students to explore the cultural identity of Hong Kong's past.  Students worked with an artist-in-residence to paint watercolour landscapes.

SAI KUNG NATURAL WONDERS

Hong Kong is made up of a series of islands. Sai Kung is located on the furthest east coast of Hong Kong and it is a gateway to many off-the-beaten-path remote outlying islands and country parks.
